Bay2Bay Hike

in aid of SFAR – the St Francis Animal Rescue

Details & Itinerary

Baviaans2Bay Adventures has a new hike on the menu, and most importantly, it is a hike with a purpose!

From 23 March 2026 we will be hosting the inaugural Bay2Bay Hike in aid of SFAR – the St Francis Animal Rescue programme in the greater St Francis.  This 4 day hike (5 nights) will cover the beautiful parts of the shoreline between Gqeberha and Cape St Francis totalling 66km.

Background

When Manuel Perestrelo, a Portuguese explorer, named the bay between Cape St Francis and Gqeberha some 450 years ago, he chose to honour St Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals and the environment.

He surely had no idea that St Francis Bay would not only attract travelers for its beauty from around the globe, but would also inspire a cause fitting for its name.

A small but dedicated group of women founded St Francis Animal Rescue (SFAR), a non-profit organization committed to caring for lost, abandoned, and neglected animals.

SFAR relies entirely on donations and fundraising, and now they’re inviting YOU to make a difference while hiking along one of the most breathtaking stretches of South Africa’s shoreline.
